Obituary for Lisa Marie Pesci

Lisa M. Pesci passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2014 surrounded by her loving family after a long bout with cancer. Lisa was born in 1958, grew up in Windsor Locks, and lived throughout Connecticut, most recently in Middletown. She went to St. Mary Catholic School in Windsor Locks through the eighth grade, was a graduate of Windsor Locks High School and received her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree of social work from University of St. Joseph in West Hartford, CT. Lisa spent much of her professional life helping people, especially children, acquire the services, care and help they need to get through the rough parts of their lives. She gave selflessly to many, was a true advocate for children and lived to make the world a better place. She was also a longtime volunteer and board member of Destination Imagination, dedicated to ‘teach the creative process from imagination to innovation’ to children.

Lisa enjoyed life. She was an avid rock climber and traveled the US and the world to find routes to ascend boulders, towering rock faces and mountains. She was an active member of the Connecticut Climbers and Mountaineers, Ragged Mountain Foundation, a volunteer at the Traprock 50K Ultramarathon, and had many close friends that shared her passion for climbing, hiking and all things connected to high adventure in the natural world. Lisa also enjoyed horseback riding, rock music – especially attending concerts and smaller shows – and long, rambling conversations with her many friends, especially if that conversation was accompanied by good food and a nice bottle of wine. Most of all she loved her family and treasured her nieces and nephews, Jake, Faith, Lidia, Nicky and Elena.

Along with them, Lisa leaves behind her devoted parents, James and Madelyn Pesci of Columbia, SC; her brother, David Pesci and his wife, Corin, of Chapel Hill, NC; her brother, James Pesci and his wife, Madelyn, of Fairfield, CT; her sister, Jennifer Anderson and her husband, Garrett, of Windsor Locks, CT; and her cousin Craig Tobey and his wife, Miyuki Sakai, of San Francisco, CA.

A wake will be held at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., on Saturday, March 8th from 9 AM to 12 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following the wake at 12:30 PM at St. Mary Church, 42 Spring St. Lisa’s parents, Jim and Madelyn Pesci, will also celebrate a Memorial Mass in Columbia, SC in late March.

Lisa’s life touched many people, as many others touched hers. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations are made in Lisa’s memory to any of the following organizations: The Dana Farber Cancer Institute referenced in memory of Lisa Pesci (www.dfci.org), Brigham and Women’s Hospital (www.brighamandwomens.org), and Destination Imagination (www.destinationimagination.org).
