Obituary for Eileen C. Stanton (Girouard)

Eileen Stanton, 98, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2016. The oldest of three sisters, Eileen was born on April 4, 1918 to the late Adolph and Ora (Miller) Girouard. Eileen grew up and attended school in West Warren, MA. She later moved to Ware and then Springfield, MA where she lived with her husband Edmund and raised her two daughters. Eileen loved nature. Her home and backyard garden always seemed to be in bloom. She loved animals, spent many happy hours feeding the birds and was a member of Friends of Animals, an area rescue organization. Eileen’s greatest quality was her desire to help her family. She was a nanny, a cook (and quite a good one), laundress, and dishwasher. Her grandchildren have wonderful memories of coming home from school to freshly baked cookies and washed and folded clothes. During holidays, she would sneak off to put on her rubber gloves and get busy with the dishes before anyone else could lay claim to “her work.” Even as her mental abilities began to decline, this was the one task she refused to relinquish. Eileen always had a smile for everyone. She faced many challenges in life with resilience and tenacity. Her motto was to keep going and not worry about those things she couldn’t control. She was kind, thoughtful and loving to all. She was always there to help and offer support to others, and she did so selflessly. Eileen is survived by her two daughters, Maureen and her husband Charles Silver of Suffield, and Gail Stanton and her husband James Paisley of Chester, her grandchildren, Stephanie Silver, Christopher Silver and his wife Lynn, Adam Silver and his wife Meridith, Nathan Hammond and Olivia Hammond and her great-grandchildren Robert Jr., Rachel, Reese and Peyton. Eileen was predeceased by her grandson, Robert Silver, and her sisters, Pearl Clough and Hazel Janes. We would like to thank the nurses and CNA's at Meadow Brook of Granby for their kindness and loving care. The staff and residents of Meadow Brook became not only Eileen's family, but also our friends. It is comforting to know how much she was loved.
Family and friends may gather on Friday, April 29 at 9:30 to 10:30 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield for a processions to Holy Family Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at New St. Williams Cemetery, Ware, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association CT Chapter, 200 Executive Blvd., Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489.
