William K.  Walton Jr.
William K. Walton, Jr., 92, of the Borough of Fenwick, Old Saybrook, CT and former resident of Somersville CT, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 22, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Son of the late William Sr. and Margie Mae (Smith) Walton, Bill was born November 10, 1923 in Homestead, FL. He married his wife of 68 years, Julia Ann Keeney Walton, on June 12,1947. He proudly served in the US Army Air Corps as a radio operator during World War II in the European Theater. After returning from the war he moved north to Connecticut and worked at the Sage-Allen Department Store for 33 years, retiring as the Executive Vice President in 1978. Bill was a life member of the American Legion and member of the Composite Lodge # 28 and the Sphinx Temple. He also served on various civic organizations in the town of Somers and the Zoning Board of Appeals in Fenwick. An avid golfer, he won the Morgan Cup Tournament in 1991, the Fourth of July Men's Tournament twice, the inaugural Fenwick Father-Son Tournament with his teammate Norm, and was proud to have made two holes-in-one. In recent years he helped organize the Fenwick Wednesday Men's golf and lunch group. Bill spent winters in Florida with his wife for more than 30 years, where he continued to golf year-round. He loved musical theatre, his whale collection, cooking, gardening, traveling, and his family. In addition to his wife, Julia Ann, he is also survived by three children: Nancy W. Marikar of South Windsor, W. Karl Walton, III and his wife, Barbara of Somersville, CT and Normand K. Walton of Cromwell, CT; grandchildren: Amanda Marikar, Sarah Marikar and her fiancé Andrew Marshall, Kaitlin Walton, Kyle Walton and his wife Casey, Kelsie Walton, Joshua Walton, and Erzsica Walton; great granddaughter: McKenzie Weisner; and a niece: Margie Davenport of Nags Head, NC. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, John M. Walton, and a son-in-law, M. A. Suliaman Marikar. MD. He has been interred in the Fenwick Memorial Garden. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at a later date. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Middlesex Hospital Hospice unit for the care and consideration given to Bill and his family.
