Wayne S.  Nickerson
Wayne Sperry Nickerson, 80, of Somers, CT passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Johnson Memorial Hospital. Wayne was born August 20, 1936, in Presque Isle, ME the son of the late Ernest “Guy” and Marion (Sperry) Nickerson. Wayne moved to Hartford CT in 1955 and graduated from Hartford Public High School. He was a private pilot, avid golfer, played tennis, and well respected chess player and loved to write and recite poetry, as well as play the piano. He proudly served in the Air National Guard with the Connecticut Flying Yankees and was employed at Pratt & Whitney and then retired from Chandler Evans Corporation. Wayne opened his first campground Bow Lake Campground in Baltic, CT and his second Nickerson Park Campground in Chaplin CT. He was one of the founders and was the first president of the Connecticut Campground Owners Association. He came to trust in his Savior Jesus Christ and was baptized at the age of 73. Wayne was predeceased by his wife of 24 years Marie (Pixley) Nickerson, and two children, a son Glen Nickerson and daughter Idda Nickerson; his brother, Dwight Nickerson and sister, Muesa May Nickerson. Wayne is survived by his three children, Christopher S. Nickerson and his wife, Diane of Chaplin, CT, W. Sperry Nickerson and his wife, Tina of Berlin, CT and Musa M. Jatkowski and her husband, Scott of Coventry, CT; his grandchildren, John, Paul and Henry Nickerson, Brie, Zoie, and Chloie Nickerson, Autumn Berry, Conner, Austin, JeanMarie, Jeremy, and Gabrielle Jatkowski and several nieces and nephews. Wayne is also survived by his life partner of 30 years, Marilyn Oswell and her six children, Lee Oswell and fiancé, Beverly, Ronnie Owell and wife, Sue, Jay Oswell, Jill Bower and husband, Karl, Tammy Gowash and husband, Ken and Christi Oswell and several grandchildren and great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Wednesday, August 31, 2016, from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St., (Route 190) Somers. A funeral service for Wayne will be celebrated at 7:30 pm. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Connecticut Chapter, 200 Executive Boulevard, Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489.
