James “Diamond Jim” Carr, 86 a long time resident of Enfield, CT, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 at home with his family by his side.He was born on December 31, 1929, in Thompsonville. He worked as a lead man for 11 years for Bigelow Sanford, 3 years for the North Thompson Fire Department, 7 years for Hamilton Standard as a Fire Brigade and continued for an additional 27 years as a Jet Fuel Test Operator for Hamilton Standard. He retired Feb. 29, 1992 and was very proud to express how much he enjoyed working on the Hydromechanical testing and repair on the afterburners for the SR-71 Black Bird Spy Plane. For those of you who knew James, he was a wonderful, loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He loved going to the beach, fishing, target shooting, spending time in the yard as well as daily feedings of the geese and birds. He was a nostalgic buff when it came to the old movies and he watched them over and over again, especially westerns featuring John Wayne. He was definitely a cowboy at heart. He loved the water and the beach enjoying many summers at the cottages at Clinton Beach and Card’s Camp in Rhode Island with family and friends. In his later years, winters were spent enjoying the beach and swimming in his daughter Susan’s pool in Boca Raton, Florida. The last couple of years he had the opportunity to find out what life was like in the mountains in Eidson, TN. He loved every minute of it.
James especially enjoyed sharing all of the memories and time spent with his buddies John Morrison, Larry Mac Namara, Bill Vanderpool, Jose DeLeon, Rick Bennett, Pete Loiselle, Stanley Such, and his lunch buddies .
He is survived by his loving wife Sally (Higginbotham) Carr who shared 64 wonderful years of marriage. He is survived by his four daughters Debra Wynglarz and her husband Frank of Chicopee, MA; Susan Hewitt and her husband Jay of Boca Raton, FL, Sandra Carr of Enfield, CT, Nancy DeLeon and husband Jose of Enfield, CT; and his son Robert Carr of Granby, MA.; five grandchildren, Benton Carr and wife Stephanie, Ryan Hickton, Aubree Carr, Katie and Emily Hewitt.
