Robert E. “Bob” Byron, 84, of Windsor Locks husband of the late Mary (Simonetta) Byron entered into Eternal Rest on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at Morton Hospital in Taunton, MA. Bob was born November 28, 1933, in the Thompsonville section of Enfield the son of the late Emmett and Eliza (Wilde) Byron. He proudly served in the United States Navy. Bob was employed for several years with Kaman Aerospace in Bloomfield and later retired from the Stanadyne Corporation in Windsor where he was employed as Quality Assurance Engineer. Bob was a faithful communicant of St. Mary Church where he served for many years as a Eucharistic Minister and prayed with the Charismatic Prayer Group. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus Riverside Council # 26 and member of the Windsor Locks Senior Center. He enjoyed playing cards and was an avid fan of UCONN Women Basketball, but his true passion was gardening. Bob volunteered for many years at the Little Sisters of the Poor where he was affectionately referred to “Tomato Bob” for his wonderful bounty of heirloom tomatoes. He is survived by two children, Robert J. Byron and his wife, Kristin of North Easton, MA and Eliza Nolan and her husband, Casey of Suffield; his grandchildren, Nikolas, Alessandra, and Sophia Byron, Hayden and Peyton Nolan; two siblings, Thomas Byron of Alaska and Ethel Reeves of Washington and many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by three brothers, Emmett, Alfred and Henry Byron and two sisters, Marion Fecteau and Evelyn Gotts. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Thursday, March 15, 2018, from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks. A funeral procession will gather on Friday, March 16, 2018, at 9 am at the funeral home for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 am at St. Mary Church. Burial will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions of memory of Bob may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 1365 Enfield St., Enfield, CT 06082.
