Barbara J. (Rossi) Catania, 82, lifelong resident of Enfield and loving wife of 39 wonderful years to the late Charles J. "Chic" Catania passed away on Friday, December 2, 2016, at Vibra Healthcare in Springfield, MA . Barbara was born March 31, 1934, in the Thompsonville section of Enfield the daughter of the late Vito and Rose (Jackamore) Rossi. She attended local schools in Enfield and was a graduate of Enfield High School Class of 1951. At a young age Barbara took interest in playing the drums and quickly excelled from the teachings of some of the world's best instructors. Drumming brought Barbara several accolades and awards, she was inducted in the Hall of Fame in Ivoryton, CT and won an award for the best drummer in Northwestern United States. She drummed in the Ancient Fife and Drum Corps, the Spirit of 1976 and the Sons of the Whiskey Rebellion. Not only was she a talented drummer, but an all around artist, she was a wonderful ballerina, great sculptor and oil painter. Barbara thanks the many people throughout her life that gave her the opportunities to excel and be the best at whatever endeavor she put forth. She even coined her own phrase "After every storm there is a rainbow". Her working career began with Kaman Aircraft at Bradley Field where she was employed as a secretary. Soon after Kaman her diverse career began, she worked at WAQY 102 as a secretary and did voice overs and ran promotions. Her greatest accomplishments came when she was employed by Power Tools Specialists where she specialized in importing tools for companies and helped trade mark and patent some of the tools. She also worked part-time at Steiger's Department Store in charge of retail management and even in her 80's she could be seen working as a receptionist at Suffield By The River. She is survived by her three children, Lisa Catania of Ashford, CT, Michael Catania and his wife, Cheryl, and Jennafer Catania-Fregeau and her husband Richard all of Enfield; her beloved granddaughter, Rebecca Lynn Catania; a brother-in-law, Thomas Catania and his wife, Mary Jane; a sister-in-law, Helen Rossi; her nephews, Scott Rossi, Donald Ruggiero and wife, Joan, Robert Ruggiero and wife, Mitzi and niece, Karen Vesce and husband, Frank and several great nieces and great nephews. Barbara was predeceased by a brother, Robert Rossi and a sister, Lena Ruggiero. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Thursday, December 8, 2016, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. A Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday, December 9, 2016, at St. Patrick's Church, 64 Pearl St., Enfield. Please meet at the church. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's King Street Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Barbara may be made to the Boys& Girls Clubs of America Resource Development, Operations 1275 Peachtree Street NE Atlanta, GA 30309-3506.
