Obituary for Hortense M. "Tex" Murphy (Martinez)

Hortense “Tex” (Martinez) Murphy, 85, of East Windsor, CT entered into Eternal Rest on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family. Hortense was born March 10, 1932, in San Antonio, TX the daughter of the late Pete and Josephine (Corando) Martinez. She was employed as a hairdresser and retired from Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks after several years. Tex was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She enjoyed painting and crocheting and taught painting at the Senior Center in East Windsor. She is survived by three children, Patricia Murphy-Stevenson of Windsor, Joseph Murphy of East Windsor and Julie Rand of Windsor Locks; many grandchildren, Jamie Cook of Canada, Michael Cook, Jr., Colrain and Jami Stevenson, Jessica Benevides, Joseph Murphy, Crystal Briano, Patrick Collins and Lily Rand, many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a sister, Cora Swass and her husband, Matt of CA and several nieces and nephews. Hortense was predeceased by two sons, Bro. Gerald Philip Murphy and Michael Leroy Murphy and a sister, Rebecca Martinez. Hortense’s family would like to thank her caregiver Kevin Colgan and the nurses with Masonicare Hospice for the wonderful and compassionate care and a special thank you to Patricia Dymarcik and family. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks. A Mass of Christian Burial for Tex will be celebrated on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at 10 am at St. Mary Church, 42 Spring St., Windsor Locks. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Hortense may be made to St. Mary Church, 42 Spring St., Windsor Locks, CT 06096.
