Obituary for John Vamvilis

John Peter Vamvilis, 51, of Somers, passed away on Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at his home. Born in Hartford, a son of Patricia (Cole) Vamvilis and the late Peter Vamvilis, John was a resident of the Enfield and Somers communities during his life and was co-owner of the Maine Fish Market restaurant in the Warehouse Point section of East Windsor. He was a member of St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church in East Longmeadow. John enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and gardening. He was very proud of his fruit trees frequently giving them the special care they needed. He was also an avid sports fan, and loved his favorite teams including the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Bruins, and the New England Patriots. In addition to his mother, Patricia, of East Longmeadow, he is survived by his children, Peter Vamvilis of Kingston, RI, Justin Vamvilis of Tolland, CT, Jonathan Vamvilis of Ellington, CT; his brother, Nicholas Vamvilis and his wife, Kathleen of Somers; two nieces Melissa Vamvilis and her fiance Kevin Bailey, Nicole Vamvilis and her fiance Justin Andrews; a nephew, Peter Vamvilis; his former wife, Jennifer Vamvilis of Ellington; his aunts, Thea Politimi Vamvilis of Florida, Thea Tasia of Sparta, Greece, and Carole Cole of Enfield; his uncles, Albert Cole and his wife, Karen, and Alan Cole, all of Dayton, ME; and many cousins. Besides his father, Peter, who died Nov. 30, 2008, John was predeceased by his brother, Michael Paul Vamvilis, who died Oct. 8, 2012, and his uncle Mike Vamvilis. Funeral services and burial are private. Donations in John's memory may be made to St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church, 400 Prospect St., East Longmeadow, MA 01028.
