Obituary for Nelson S. "Scott" Giddings

Nelson S. "Scott" Giddings
Nelson Scott Giddings, 62, of Enfield transitioned from his earthly body very peacefully on Wednesday, September 20, 2017. He was at home and surrounded by his loving family. Raised in West Hartford, CT by his parents, the late Merton Dale Giddings and Ruth Asness Giddings, he has been a resident of Enfield for the past 29 years. Scott was a craftsman and for 44 years practiced his trade as a metal and CNC machinist, most recently with Ludlow Machine Tool in Agawam, MA. He was multi-talented in working with both metal and wood and his woodworking skills are very prevalent in the beautiful restoration of his home in Enfield.
Scott will be remembered as a peaceful, loving, gentle, kind man who was BE-ing the Change he wished to see in the world. He believed that as we give to the world, the world gives back and volunteered in a variety of positions in his community by serving on the Town Council, as President of Enfield Beautification Committee, Enfield Clean Sweep, CT River Source to Sea Cleanup, and along with his wife Deborah, the Book Buddies literacy program. Scott was also a proud Eagle Scout and volunteered as an Asst. Scout Master with Boy Scout Troop 164, which his father had started in West Hartford, and also with Troop 180 in Enfield.
Scott is survived by his wife Deborah Farrell Giddings of Enfield; his brother Jeffrey M. Giddings and sister-in-law Bet Dorschug Giddings of Rochester, MA; their four beautiful children Sarah-Kate Sharkey and her daughter Johanna of Eugene, OR; Annie Kerwin, her husband Eric and their sons Alexander and Theodore of Litchfield, NH; Patrick Giddings and his wife Maria of Mattapoisett, MA; and Meg MacLeod and her husband Doug of Rochester, MA; nieces Karen Barnes of Oakland, CA and Jordan Barnes of New York, NY; nephew Loryn Barnes of Bridgewater, CT; and many friends and extended family.
A Celebration of Scott’s life will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Unity of Greater Hartford, 919 Ellington Road, South Windsor, CT. Scott believed in walking the Earth as if you were kissing it with each step and for the past 30 years Scott was a grateful member of the National Arbor Day Foundation so if you wish, please make a contribution in his memory to the Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Avenue, Nebraska City, NE 68410 or by sponsoring an American Flag to be displayed in Scott’s memory at www.enfield-ct.gov/654/Beautification-Committee-Flag-Project.
