Obituary for Joan C Smilgys

Joan (Chappell) Smilgys, 85, of Enfield, loving wife of Victor Smilgys entered into Eternal Rest on Friday, March 9, 2018, at Baystate Medical Center. Joan was born August 19, 1932, in Springfield, MA the daughter of the late George and Catherine (Hogan) Chappell. She was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling. Joan and Victor enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Ireland, and England. In addition to her husband to whom she was married 61 years, she is also survived by her two children, Karin Curtis and her husband, Thomas of Enfield and Russell Smilgys of Fairfax, VA; two brothers, George Chappell and his wife, Lyn of Manchester and Bruce Chappell of Enfield and several nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased two siblings, Jack Chappell and Mary Sarno. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Friday, March 16, 2018, from 8:30 to 9:30 am at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. A funeral procession will form at the funeral home at 9:30 am for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 am at St. Patrick's Church. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's King Street Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Joan may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
