Condolence: Joe personified service to others throughout his life and has left an important, meaningful legacy through those who had the honor and privilege of knowing him. From when I met Joe as a 13-year old ACE Camp student, he took the time to thoughtfully mentor me, teach me about the Air Force, and help me understand how to be an effective leader. He sponsored my Eagle Scout project at the CTANG investing countless hours in my development and ultimately played an essential role in helping me achieve my dreams. Simply put, he embodied the spirit of being a Chief Master Sergeant, both while in the Air Force and after his retirement. Throughout the years, we continued our friendship and although I only saw him occasionally, I will forever treasure the time we spent together having lunch at J&G's trading stories and laughing about times past. Mrs. Murtari, Brian, Mark, and Cheryl, you and your families are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time; but I hope you find comfort in the fact that there are so many of us who will continue to celebrate Joe's life everyday as we attempt to epitomize his compassion, mentorship, and zeal in serving others in the same way he so fervently served us. Godspeed and tailwinds always.

Condolence: Joe had a great influence upon our family. For 20 years we lived just up the street. Our sons Jeff and Seth both joined the ANG and I had the privilege of conducting Protestant Services at the base until they got a regular chaplain. Thanks Joe for being a great friend, neighbor and such a positive influence upon our family.
Our condolences to each of you. I regret that Esther and I will be out of town and are so sorry we cannot join you as you honor this great patriot and our dear friend.
You are in our prayers. George and Esther Heiland
