Obituary for Elizabeth "Betty" Ryan Smyth

Elizabeth Ryan Smyth, age 90, passed away May 15, 2018 at St Joseph’s Residence. She was born on December 2, 1927. Her parents Edward and Anna Ryan owned Ryan’s Grill in her hometown of Meriden, CT. Elizabeth was predeceased by her sister Jane Haines.
In 1946 she married Thomas R. Smyth, who predeceased her in 2007, and moved to Enfield where she lived on Enfield Street the rest of her life. Betty raised her five children while being an active member of The Woman’s Club of Enfield, The Visiting Nurse Association of Enfield, and she volunteered at the St Vincent DePaul Society.
She was a devout Catholic and attended St Patrick’s Church and Holy Family Church.
Her Irish Catholic roots were the foundation of her life. She passed those deep roots on to her children, Grandchildren, and Great Grandchildren. “Nana” was loved by all.
Her presence in the town will be missed by all who knew her. Her door was always open and she welcomed all and judged none.
Elizabeth leaves her five children, Michael and his wife Dale, Ellen and her husband Richard, Kathryn, Timothy, and Mary. She will also be sadly missed by 14 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren.
Visitation hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday May 18, 2018 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Holy Family Church (Please meet at church), 23 Simon Rd., Enfield.
