Obituary for Patricia A. Blankfard (Leddy)

Blankfard, Patricia A. “Patty” (Leddy)
Patty was born in Hartford, CT on December 9, 1954, the daughter of Paul E. Leddy and Elizabeth McGuire Leddy Ellis. Patty was the 4th of the five Leddy children. Patty was the wife of Patrick (Francis) Blankfard of Rochester, New York. Patty passed away at Unity Hospital in Rochester, NY on February 25, 2014 surrounded by and with the love and comfort of her husband, children, mother and sisters. Patty has fought a long and hard battle with her illness for many years. It knocked her down and kept her down and then she would somehow find it in her to stand up and start the battle again. This was so evident the week¬end of February 21st, during her hospital stay, she was engaging, funny, exasperated with everyone but the same old Patty and her personality again surfaced. When she took a major turn for the worse, she started to fight once again, and she fought until all of her family and children could arrive from out of state and spend time with her.
Patty was known as Patty Patricia to her loving husband Patrick and as Pretty Pat to the Leddy clan, a name coined by her Dad. To her children Justin Thomas Caruso and Brett Joseph Caruso (her boys) she was sim¬ply Mom. Patty loved her children and during their younger years if the boys could not sleep she would drive them around Windsor Locks to get them to fall asleep. Patty loved to cook and her egg plant was everyone’s favorite. Patty made a mean salsa which she devoured with her sisters and a cocktail sauce that would make your nose run. One of her favor¬ite meals was Lobster Pie that Patrick made for her on a regular basis. Her children meant the world to her and as Patrick’s jobs changed they moved to Chicago, IL, Syracuse, NY and Rochester, NY. Patty made many friends during her travels and hosted many get together’s no mat¬ter where she lived. Connecticut was home and Patty, Patrick and the boys would make the holiday trek to CT in many of the USS Blankfard’s and the travel tales were legendary. The anecdotes from the trips were hysterical and they became known as the Griswold (Blankfard) family vacations. Patty loved nothing more than the beach and some of her happiest times were spent on the shores of Misquamicut, RI and Ocean City Maryland. Patty enjoyed watching the boys in the water, getting a tan and having a beverage. Many of the homes Patty and Pat purchased included a pool and that is where you would find Patty on a summer day “sitting by the pool” her favorite spot. Patty loved Halloween and would for many years dress up with her children and then continued do so after they were grown; Patty was a kid at heart. Patty loved St Patrick’s Day and she and Pat were married 18 years ago in Illinois on St Patrick’s Day.
Patty was beautiful, kind, funny and a prankster. She loved to shop, cook and always needed to know what was going on. Some would call this nosey, it was simply Patty. Patty always wanted to know what was up with Justin and Brett and of course that means lots of cell phone calls to get the scoop!
Patty is survived by her loving husband, Patrick Blankfard, her sons she so loved, Justin and Brett. Her mother, Elizabeth, (Betty Ellis) her siblings, Maureen Lee Leddy, Steven Leddy, James Leddy, and Sharon Leddy, a special adopted sister Gail Monat and a niece and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Paul E. Leddy. Patty, we will all miss your love, kindness, humor and simply YOU. Your battle with this illness has taken so much from you and we know that you are now in a place that will bring you peace, comfort and joy. We love you.

Her family will receive friends on Sunday, March 2 from 2-5 p.m. at Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks. Interment is private. Contri¬butions in Patty’s name can be directed to Camp Good Days and Special Times, 1332 Pittsford-Mendon Road, Mendon, NY 14506.
