Mildred (Millie) Barend, 80, of Somers CT, passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at home.
Millie was predeceased by her beloved husband Fred “Doc” Barend, her parents, John and Sophie (Majka) Bogacz; her brother John Bogacz and James (Jimmy) McEwan, who was like a son to her.
She is survived by her sister in law, Barbara Bogacz and two nephews, Thomas Bogacz and John Bogacz
Millie was a kind, loving and faithful friend to many, many people. Some of those who became family to her include Debra Anderson of Hampden, Mass; Arlindo and Dale Alves of Ludlow, Mass; Paula and Ken Wayne of Derby Vermont; Heidi and Ed Fedorowich of Somers, CT; Robert Mashiak and friend Nancy Buddaof Somers, Ct; Kim and RhodesHaskell of East Wakefield, NH; Cash and Terry Whitmore of Farmington NH; and her dear friends and confidants, Dr. Susan and Dana Haley and Dr Marc and Judy Schweiger.
She leaves her most precious possessions, Shylo and Mylo, her beloved Boston Terriers, to the care of Lindo and Dale.
Millie was a dedicated high school teacher for 40 years, first at Palmer High school but with most of her career spent at Technical (now Central) High School. She was a mentor to countless students with a passion for providing them with a strong foundation in Math. Millie is particularly proud of the accomplishments of one of her mentees, Lydia Martinez, assistant superintendent of Springfield schools.
