William Burwell Crosby, Jr., 88, a longtime resident of Enfield passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 15, 2018. Bill was born November 12, 1930 in Newton, MA, the son of the late William B. Crosby and Bertha (Thompson) Crosby. He was a 1949 graduate of St. Mark’s School in Southborough, MA and the University of Vermont Class of 1953. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1953-1955 in Nuremberg, Germany as a line officer 1st Lieutenant. After his service in the army, Bill was employed by several companies during his working career, including United-Carr Corp, Reed Rolled Thread Die Co., C.G. Conn, Hartford Valve & Fitting, and Components & Control, Inc. He worked at G. Fox/Macy's for 20 years until retiring at the age of 81. He was past president of the Massachusetts Society of Professional Engineers (SMPE). Bill was active in various civic organizations. He was president of the Enfield Lions Club, a member of the Joseph Warren-Soley Lodge, Melha Shriners, Melha Temple Directors Association, and 32nd Scottish Rite Valley of Springfield (A.A.S.R.N.M.J.). He was also a longtime member of the Springfield Chordsmen Barber Shop Singers (SPEBSQSA). In addition to his wife, Leona, he is survived by three daughters, Jane Crosby and her husband, William Fleming of Longmeadow, MA, Cynthia Crosby Amos and her husband, Mark of Toledo, OH, Ann Crosby Gerbracht and her husband, Kevin of San Diego, CA; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a step-son Michael Rooney and his wife, Donna of Ellington; a step-daughter Cheryl Liggett and her husband, Glenn of Vernon; two brothers, Thompson W. Crosby and his wife, Diane of Essex, CT and John T. Crosby and his wife, Linda of Newton, MA; a sister, Elizabeth Cloud of West Hartford. Bill was predeceased by his son, William B. Crosby, III. Bill's family would like to thank Lam Hoa and the dedicated staff at Evergreen Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful and compassionate care he received. There are no calling hours. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. A memorial service celebrating William's life will be held in the spring, date and time to be announced. Memorial contributions in memory of William may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
