Obituary for Marcel L. St. Sauveur (St. Sauver)

Marcel St. Sauveur, (89), of Enfield, CT, passed away quietly at his home on Sunday May 28, 2017. Marcel was born on April 28,1928 in Holyoke, MA, and grew up in the "Frog Hollow" section of Hartford CT. His parents Ovide and Marie Blanche St. Sauveur were French speaking Americans of Canadian heritage. As a young man, Marcel attended Assumption High School and college in Worcester MA. He graduated from Assumption College in 1951 with a BA degree in Philosophy & French. While attending Assumption College, Marcel played baseball and basketball and was a captain on both teams. He received his Masters degree in Education from the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut in 1952.

After graduation, Marcel served as a Sergeant in the Army during the Korean War. He then taught English, French, Latin and coached at Portland, CT High School and later went into sales before finding his true passion with the North Central Connecticut Chamber of Commerce in Enfield CT. Marcel held the position of Executive Director during a 28 year career until retiring in 1999.

He had a passion for the town of Enfield and surrounding communities. Marcel loved all the people he interacted with throughout the years with the Chamber of Commerce. He was an avid golfer and sports fan, especially basketball, where he had a special place in his heart for the UConn women’s basketball team.

Marcel is survived by his ex-wife Lorraine St. Sauveur and their four children, daughter Michele and her husband Sean Dolan, daughter Marie Dugay-Brusky, sons Mark and John St.Sauveur. Survived by many grandchildren by age, Shanelle Dugay and fiance, Tyler Aikey, Austin Dugay, Samantha Dolan, Nicholas St. Sauveur, Sean Dolan, Kyle St. Sauveur, Cameron St. Sauveur and two nieces Carol Ferris and Jill St. Sauveur. Marcel is also survived by his only sibling Normand St. Sauveur, predeceased by his sister-in-law Georgette St. Sauveur.

Calling hours will be held Friday, June 2, 2017 from 4 - 7 p.m. at Leete Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd, Enfield. Family and friends may gather at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Leete-Stevens for a procession to Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Rd, Enfield, for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial.
