William "Red" J.  Edgar Jr.
LT. William "Red" J. Edgar Jr., E.P.D. Retired, (88), of the Thompsonville section of Enfield, widower of Maria (Festa) Edgar (2010), entered into eternal peace, Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at West Haven V.A. Hospital. Born in Springfield, MA, December 8, 1928, he was raised in Enfield and was the son of the late William J. Edgar Sr., and Edith (Miller) Edgar.
After graduating from Enfield High School, Red enlisted in the U.S. Army serving honorably following World War II. He attended American International College and in 1959 he became a police officer proudly serving his hometown community with the Enfield Police Dept. He retired from the Dept. as Lieutenant April 30, 1994. Red's service to the Enfield community went farther beyond his Law Enforcement career. He served on the Enfield Town Council from 1995-1999, and was re-elected in 2001 representing District 2 . He was a longtime member of the Enfield Democratic Town Committee and became the Democratic Caucus' minority leader in 2013. Red served as a Service Officer for over 20 years for the A.M.V.E.T.S. serving many veterans. He was a member of many veterans and civic organizations on both local and state levels.
He was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Enfield. Red was an avid NY Yankees and NY Giants fan. Red was devoted to his family, his community, his state, and his country.
Red is survived by his children, Teresa M. Fausel of Enfield, Kenneth Edgar and his wife Sharon of Enfield, Nancy Albetski and her husband Richard of Enfield, George Temple and his wife Carrie of Enfield, Christine Butler-Temple of Enfield, Beverly Steimer and her husband Robert of Stafford; his cherished grandchildren Mark Fausel, William Fausel and his wife Kathleen, Michelle Forna and her husband Garret, Michael Temple, Kimberly Temple, Cathy Calderon and her husband Hector, Denny Temple, Tyler Smith, Jaclyn Valley, Briana Butler, Doragrace Butler, Steven, David and Edward Albetski, Sean Stelmat and his wife Ruth, Christopher Stelmat and his wife Audrey, and Janet Higley and her husband Dwight; and his great grandchildren, Dylan and Christina Fausel, Stone Johnsen, Jake, Sieana and Logan Forna, Ray and Adam El-Rayess and Gabriel, Camden Valley, Brayden Stelmat, Joclyn DeGray and Trystan Flemming, Joseph Fausel, and Kevin Temple. Besides his wife Maria, he was predeceased by a son James Temple, his brother Albert Edgar, and his canine companion Cooper.
Visitation hours will be held from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. Family and friends may gather at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Leete-Stevens for a procession to St. Patrick Church, 64 Pearl St., Enfield, for a 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Committal, with military honors, will follow at St. Patrick's King St. Cemetery. Donations in Red's memory may be made to the Enfield Food Shelf, 96 Alden Ave., Enfield, CT 06082.
