Obituary for John F. McCafferty

John F.  McCafferty
John F. McCafferty, 86, of East Longmeadow, MA, and formerly of Enfield, CT loving husband of the late Ann (Bjorkland) McCafferty entered into Eternal Rest on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at Redstone Rehab and Nursing Center in East Longmeadow. John was born May 13, 1931, in Boston, MA the son of the late Joseph and Stella (Mauchan) McCafferty. John proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. John had a successful career with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft which began in 1957 until retirement in 1991 as Chief of Experimental Construction. He was an automobile enthusiast who could be found tinkering or restoring cars in his garages. John was member of the Early Ford V8 Club of America and participated in several New England 1000 Road Rallies. He was a longtime resident of the Enfield community where he served as a Fire Commissioner from 2002 to 2013 in Enfield Fire District # 1. He is survived by nine children, Michael McCafferty and his wife, Jeannie of Guyton, GA, Susan Reynolds and her husband, Michael of East Longmeadow, MA, Carol Collins of Mount Airy, GA, Sean McCafferty and his wife, Patricia of GA, Diane Colella and her husband, Michael of Temple, TX, Deborah Heizman and her husband, Robert of Middletown, CT, Cynthia Cook and her Partner, Patrick Craig of Higganum, CT, Brian Coppinger and his Partner, Karen Yaccarino of Glastonbury, CT, and Annmarie Coppinger of FL; a daughter-in-law, Tracy Coppinger of Carmel Valley, CA; nine beloved grandchildren, Jay Potter, Megan Maynard and her husband, Rick, Catherine Koslik and her husband, Eric, William and Zachary Myers, Cody, Thomas, Trey and Carson Coppinger; three beloved great-granddaughters, Cassidy and Hailey Maynard and Victoria Koslik; his sister, Ann Murphy of Dedham, MA and Jack’s devoted friend Sandra Daley. John was predeceased by a son, Thomas Coppinger. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Thursday, August 17, 2017, from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. A Mass of Christian Burial for John will be celebrated on Friday, August 18, 2017, at 10 am at St. Michael's Church, 128 Maple St., East Longmeadow. Please meet at the church. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's King Street Cemetery in Enfield with military honors. Memorial contributions in John's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O.
