Condolences

Condolence From: Steve Ello
Condolence: I miss my friend Dave or as he would say, "my buddy Dave!" We met almost forty years ago when he was living and working in the Washington, DC area and we remained friends. His Byron Jackson sales office was in the preeminent mall in the area (Yes, a shopping mall![Tyson's Corner]). I was working at a men's clothing store while I finished up at Georgetown and he'd just stop in the store and talk us up. Our friendship began as mutual woeful and hopeful Red Sox fans and survived their disappointing losses in '78, '86 and '03! Dave brought a bunch of us together that worked in the mall and we all hung out regularly during his time in DC. There was the night we drove to the nearest beach, Ocean City, MD, at midnight so we would be there by sunrise! However, we could not leave until we stopped by his house to pick up plastic souvenir Red Sox batting helmets for the drive! Dave was spontaneous!

When I took a job in California in '84, I didn't know anyone except "my buddy Dave!" He welcomed me, introducing me to everyone he knew and showing me "his" San Francisco and always offering his couch in Mill Valley. I moved back to DC in '89 but we always connected when he was East or I was West. Dave was a generous friend!

I could tell story after story about "my buddy Dave". Like the time he showed up with a bag of corn on the cob he bought from a roadside stand; "Hey, let's cook this up!". Or, a drive by knock on my door to have a catch or play basketball. Or, more importantly, being there whenever I called him when I was going through a particularly difficult time in my life. When you neeed him, Dave was there!

"My buddy Dave" was a good and true friend. My life was made better by knowing him and I will miss him.

Steve
