Obituary for Norman P Twitchell

Norman P Twitchell
Norman Percy Twitchell, 91, of Windsor Locks, CT, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 7, 1927 in Norway, Maine, the loving son of the late Percy W. and Marguerite (Marquis) Twitchell. He resided in Windsor Locks with his beloved wife of 48 years, the late Arlene (Wentworth) Twitchell. Norman attended Springfield College studying HVAC at night while working at Hamilton Standard during the day. He also owned an appliance repair business. He went on to teach his passion for HVAC at EC Goodwin Tech. for ten years and was the CT President of Heating and Cooling Association for many years. Norman later cofounded H&T Mechanical and in his later years worked for Harp Mechanical as Project Coordinator. His customers knew they could depend on Norm any time of day or night.

Norman was a devoted baseball fan and was a semipro catcher with the Portland Maine Club in 1944. He enjoyed reading, cooking, crossword puzzles and camping with his eight children. Our family has many wonderful memories of weekend BBQ’s and swimming in Nanny and Poppy’s pool. Norman was a dedicated member of and helped to build Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Suffield, where he served as Deacon. He was a youth leader and also taught Sunday school.

Norman is survived by four sons, Doug Twitchell (Linda) of West Palm Beach, Fla; Steven Twitchell (Debbi) of Enfield CT; Michael Twitchell (Betsy) of Burlington, CT; (David Twitchell (Debbie) of Becket, MA, his daughters, Carol Twitchell (significant other, Daniel St. Onge) of Enfield, CT; Lorie Metivier (Doug) of Windsor Locks, CT; 24 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Ken Mattia. In addition to his beloved wife, Arlene, Norman is predeceased by his son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Marlene Twitchell; a daughter, Denise Mattia; his brother, Donald Twitchell; and a sister, Connie Boschert. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for calling hours on Monday, July 16, 2018 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring Street, Windsor Locks, CT 06096.
