Obituary for Carl J Schiessl

Carl J. Schiessl, Jr., 86, beloved husband of Carol (Islieb) Schiessl for 64 years, died on July 25, 2018 at his home in Windsor Locks. Born on May 12, 1932 in Hartford, Carl was the son of the late Carl Schiessl and Josephine (Kampfmann) Schiessl. While at Weaver High School, he excelled at football and baseball. After graduating, Carl served honorably in the United States Navy for four years. Upon discharge, he was employed for 36 years by Southern New England Telephone Company as a lineman, foreman, control foreman, and manager. Carl was an accomplished woodworker, spending hours in his workshop crafting furniture, cabinets, clocks, toys, and ornaments, among other items. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and UConn sports fan. Carl coached youth baseball and assisted Coach Dave Farr and the Windsor Locks High School baseball team in 2004. In 2011, Carl and Carol, a devoted Red Sox fan, received the first Fan of the Games award from the Windsor Locks Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of their ardent support of local sports teams. Carl was a devoted and active communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine and St. Mary Churches in Windsor Locks. Above all, Carl loved his family and cherished the time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Carl is survived by his children, Caren LaTorra and her husband William of Windsor Locks, Carl J. Schiessl III and his wife Lynn of Windsor Locks, Curt Schiessl and his wife Deborah of Ellington, CT and Carrie Ghareeb and her husband George of Agawam, MA; his grandchildren, Timothy LaTorra and his wife Elizabeth of Concord, NH, Scott LaTorra and his wife Chrissy, of Windsor Locks, Eric LaTorra of Windsor Locks, Stephanie Hannaford and her husband Andrew of Somers, CT, Amanda Schiessl of Windsor Locks, Curt Schiessl Jr., Robert Schiessl, and Gabriela Schiessl of Ellington, Nadia and Diana Ghareeb of Agawam, and Christopher Weigert and his wife Jaclyn of Windsor Locks; and his great grandchildren, Anthony, Taylor, Lily, Elena, and Alexandra LaTorra, Carson and Vivian Rose Hannaford, and Fiona Weigert. He is predeceased by his sister, Marilyn Cataldo. Special thanks to his caregivers Jennie, Andrea, and Dawn. Visitation hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring Street, Windsor Locks. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2018 at St. Mary Church, 42 Spring St., Windsor Locks. A procession will gather at the funeral home at 9:00 am. Committal, with military honors, will follow at St. Mary Cemetery.
