Dr. Vaitukaitis was director of NCRR when I was hired there. My wife and I had some concerns about a personal matter that we felt might have made it hard for us to relocate to Maryland. It was resolved when Dr. Vaitukaitis personally helped us find the resources our family would need in order to make the move. She also generously accommodated my desire to continue to pursue laboratory research while working in one of NCRR's extramural grant programs. She was a very knowledgeable and insightful scientist. It was always important to be well prepared for meetings with her. I enjoyed working with her and remember her understanding and consideration for my family with gratitude.

Dianne and I send our condolences. Though I never met Judy I did talk to her once about ten years ago. I was curious as to wether we were distantly related. I followed her magnificent career on Google. Anyway our best to her family. Respectfully Mike and Dianne Waitukaitis
