Walter E. Bednaz, 93, of Windsor Locks loving husband of Lorraine (Belanger) Bednaz died peacefully on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at Parkway Pavilion in Enfield. Walter and Lorraine celebrated 72 years of marriage, raised three wonderful daughters and survived the death of their oldest daughter Kathleen. Walter was born December 20, 1924, in Suffield, CT the son of the late Stanley and Mary (Jurczyk) Bednaz. Walter proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired from Hamilton Standard in 1986 after several years as a purchasing agent. Walter was a communicant of St. Mary Church and served as the Past Commander of the Smalley Brothers V.F.W. Post 6123 in Windsor Locks. Walter was an avid golfer, a passion he taught his grandsons and in his youth enjoyed bowling. He loved to garden and could be found tending to his meticulously manicured lawn. Walter will be remembered as loving husband, wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather that always put others needs before his own. Walt packed the car every Friday night and the whole family traveled to his beloved camp on Newfound Lake. In addition to his wife, Lorraine he is also survived by two daughters, Jacqueline Viau and her husband, Rodney Schmidt of Groton, MA and Diane Gabel and her husband, Jeffrey of Suffield; three grandchildren, Adam Gabel and his wife, Melanie of Windsor Locks, Andrew Gabel and his significant other, Kayla Caruso of Enfield; Erin Dinsmore and her husband, T.J. of Nashua, NH and a great-granddaughter, Madison Gabel and many nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by his daughter, Kathleen Bednaz; three brothers, Benjamin, Frank and Fred Bednaz; four sisters, Nellie Rogers, Geraldine Kulas, Julie Orr, and Lorraine Lusardi. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, from 9 am to 11 am at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks. A funeral service for Walter will be celebrated 11 am at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association P.O.
