Obituary for Frederick Brian Love

Print
Frederick Brian Love, 68, of Somers, devoted husband of Susan E. (Brodeur) Love, died Thursday, Nov. 22, surrounded by his loving family at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Springfield, MA, a son of the late Andrew E. and Mabel (Ridley) Love, Jr., he grew up in the Suffield community and was a member of the Suffield High School Class of 1968. Fred later lived in Enfield for 17 years before moving to Somers in 1994. He had been employed with Pratt & Whitney, at both the Middletown and East Hartford plants, for 38 years, retiring in 2011. He was a long time member of the Northern CT. Radio Control Club in Ellington and also volunteered and coached in the Enfield Hockey Association for many years. He especially enjoyed his travels with Sue, whether it be through Europe, the Scandinavian countries, or the many road trips throughout the United States with his friends Phil and Sue Clarkin. Brian had a passion for and excelled at restoring antique cars and trucks. In his spare time, he could always be found tearing down an antique car, rebuilding an engine or putting the finishing touches on a newly restored antique pick-up truck. Always ready to try something new, he fabricated and welded a bench seat onto a restored antique tractor so he could drive his grandchildren around the area field. There was only one thing that outweighed his passion for cars and that was his love and devotion to his family. Time spent with family meant everything to Fred, whether it was family gatherings, trips, completing projects with his sons or babysitting his grandchildren. In addition to Sue, his beloved wife of 48 years, Brian is survived by his two sons, Michael Love and his wife, Christie, and Edward Love and his wife, Kelly; and five grandchildren, Grace, Cooper, Daphne, Callum and Hadley, all of Enfield; his brother, Andrew Love and his wife, Michelene, of Suffield; two sisters, Dorian Taylor and her husband, Vernon, of Suffield and Sandra Gabbert and her husband, Carl of Raynham, MA; and several nieces and nephews . He also leaves his buddy, Phil Clarkin and Susan's cousin, David Janelle, whom Brian affectionately referred to as " my cousin David." Fred's family will receive relatives and friends at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., on Tuesday (Nov. 27) from 4 - 7 p.m.. Funeral and burial arrangements are private. His family has suggested that expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial donations to the Shriners' Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
