Obituary for Blanche R. Guido

Blanche R. (Hamel) Guido, 97, of Windsor Locks wife of the late Carmen R. Guido, Sr. entered into Eternal Rest in the comfort of her home with her family by her side on Saturday, December 1, 2018. Blanche was born April 10, 1921, in Berlin, NH the daughter of the late Odias and Angelina (McGee) Hamel. Blanche was raised in Berlin and was a proud alumnus of St. Regis Academy where she was also a member of the choir. Blanche often spoke of times growing up in New Hampshire which brought great memories and family bonds. She enjoyed spending her time with family and when possible volunteering her time for civic matters. In the early years, Blanche worked several jobs to support her loving children. In1956 Blanche and Carmen settled in Windsor Locks where they bought their home and raised their five children for the past 62 years. Blanche was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary Church and often volunteered for different programs. Blanche also volunteered for many years at St. Joseph Residence in Enfield. She had an extraordinary green thumb and family and friends often brought their plants to Blanche to nurse back to health. She could often be found tending to her many flower and vegetable gardens and was extremely proud of her showcased gardens and meticulously manicured grounds. When time allowed she was an avid reader and she enjoyed keeping up with news and current events. Blanche was the Matriarch of the Guido/Baillargeon families and will be deeply missed and remembered for her outpouring of love and support to not only her family, but to those in need. Blanche’s deep love of the evening sky, the heavens, the stars, and moon, is a trait her family will forever cherish. There will never be an evening that will pass without her family looking into the evening sky and remembering Blanche. She is survived by four children, Janet Gwara of Windsor Locks, Linda Lang of South Windsor, Norman Baillargeon and his wife, Suzanne of Suffield and Carmen Guido, Jr. of Windsor Locks; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Baillargeon of Enfield; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Blanche was predeceased by a son, Roger Baillargeon; three brothers, Albert, Phil, and Jerry Hamel, and a sister, Elizabeth Duquette. Blanche’s family would like to thank her devoted and wonderful caregiver, Denise O’Kane for her many years of wonderful and compassionate care. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family during visiting hours on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks.
