Obituary for George M. Rypysc Jr.

George M. Rypysc, Jr. 69, loving and devoted husband of Lynn (Riopel) Rypysc, passed away with his loving family at his side at St. Francis Hospital after a one year and seven month courageous journey with pancreatic cancer.
George was born on March 1, 1949 in Springfield, MA and lived most of his life in Enfield. He graduated from Enfield High School in 1967. He went on to receive his B.S. from CCSU and then returned to his alma mater Enfield High School to teach Industrial Education there for the next 35 years. He was the Department Chairperson of the Technology Education Department until his retirement in 2007. His students meant everything to him and some remained close friends to this day. He had also served as the chairperson for the Enfield High School Library renovation that was completed in 2005 and was the Project Coordinator for the complete Enfield High School renovation in 2017. He was also employed by Stop & Shop and retired after 32.5 years.
He was a lifetime communicant of St. Adalbert Church and served as an usher for many years.
Christmas was his favorite time of year and he fully embodied the spirit of Christmas all throughout his life by endlessly giving and doing for others. He always put others first, especially his wife, children and grandchildren. His own projects were always put aside to help anyone with mechanical equipment in need of repair. Everyone knew he could fix anything!
He and his wife spent many summers traveling the U.S. in their Chevrolet Corvette, driving to all 49 states and vacationing in Hawaii the year of his retirement from teaching in 2007. George cherished the time spent with his family and especially loved taking his granddaughters to Disney World. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing and vegetable gardening sharing his fresh produce with neighbors and friends as well as generously donating his harvest to the Enfield Loaves and Fishes.
Besides his loving wife Lynn of 46 years, George leaves behind his two loving children, Catherine Morris of Saint Johns, FL and George Rypysc III of Enfield, his adoring granddaughters, Samantha and Sarah Morris, a sister-in-law Jeanne Rago and her husband John of Enfield, brother-in-law Br. M. Guerric (James Riopel) of Conyers, GA, his brother, Thomas Rypysc and his wife Rachel Rypysc of Enfield and his favorite cousin Kathy Kulina of Suffield, CT along with many nieces and nephews.
His family would like to send their deepest gratitude for the caring support he received from the Smilow Cancer Hospital at St. Francis in Hartford, in particular Dr. Sporn and Dr. Mehra, his oncologists, as well as his nurse Ann Marie at the infusion center in Enfield. A special thanks also to the nurses and staff of unit 8-1 whose compassion and care will never be forgotten. The kindness shown by family and friends during this journey will always be treasured.
George’s family will receive relatives and friends for visitation from 4-7 p.m. Friday Jan. 4, 2019 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield. A funeral procession will form at 9 a.m. Sat., Jan. 5, 2019 at Leete-Stevens for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Adalbert Church, 90 Alden Ave., Enfield. Committal will follow at St. Patrick’s King St. Cemetery. Donations in George’s memory may be made to the Smilow Cancer Hospital at St. Francis c/o Yale New Haven Hospital Office of Development, P.O.
