Marguerite “Peg” (Gubbins) Bentham, age 95 of Suffield, passed December 31, 2018. She was born July 22, 1923 in New Haven, CT to the late John and Bridget (Walsh) McCaffrey and was later adopted by the late Jim and Nora (Donovan) Gubbins. She grew up in Ansonia, but spent many years in the Seymour and Oxford areas. She graduated from Southern Connecticut State College in 1964 and taught at Great Oak School in Oxford for 26 years. When she retired, she moved to Suffield and enjoyed an active senior citizen lifestyle with her family and many friends. She cherished her independence and lived a full life on her own terms.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Robert Bentham of Seymour, her sister, Marian Sexton of Ansonia, and her brothers, Edmund Gubbins of E. Haddam, and John Moran of Oxford. Peg is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Seamus) McGovern of W. Suffield, her three precious grandchildren, Gena (Brendan) Malone, Rory McGovern, and Aileen McGovern, and great-grandson, Tristan, whom she loved to the moon and back.She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews. Her family would like to extend their gratitude to those friends and neighbors who gave Peg their love and support over the years. At Peg’s request, services will be private.
