Obituary for Rosemary Jakobsen (Misceli)

Rosemary (Miceli) Jakobsen, 76, of Somers, wife of Karl Jakobsen passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at Johnson Memorial Hospital with her family by her side. Rosemary was born May 13, 1942, in Passaic, NJ the daughter of Amelia (Perrone) Miceli of Ellicott City, MD and the late Peter F Miceli. Rosemary grew up in a tight knit community of family and friends on Long Island and the greater New York area. She graduated valedictorian from Harborfields High School in Greenlawn, NY in 1961 and went on to earn a B.A in education from Geneseo State University of New York, later earning two masters from Westfield State College and UConn. Rosemary was a dedicated wife, mother, friend and teacher who worked tirelessly for all her students. Early in her career she was an elementary school teacher and a ground school flight instructor. She went on to teach for the East Hartford Board of Education, retiring in 2005 from her position as a Special Education Administrator. After retirement she continued teaching at Options Employment Education in Hartford. Rosemary was a parishioner of All Saints Church in Somersville and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America for many years. Rosemary enjoyed vacationing and exploring the coast of Maine, but cherished most the time spent with her family and friends. In addition to her husband, Karl to whom she was married to for 52 years, she is also survived by two daughters, Mia Webb of Ellington and Heather Duran of Tariffville; three beloved granddaughters, Tessa Webb and Emma and Sofia Duran; a sister, Frances Lutjen and her husband, Skip of Ellicott City, MD; and all her much loved nieces, nephews and cousins. Rosemary was predeceased by her father Peter F. Miceli, brother, Peter F. Miceli Jr. and her son-in-law Pedro Duran. She will be missed terribly by us all. Relatives and friends are all welcome to join the family on Sunday, March 24, 2019, from 2 pm to 5 pm at the Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St., Route 190, Somers, CT 06071. A Mass of Christian Burial for Rosemary will be celebrated on Monday, March 25, 2019, at 10 am at All Saints Church 25 School St., Somersville. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
