Obituary for Albert "Al" W. Gelinas

Albert W. "Al" Gelinas, 89, of Somers, beloved husband of Faith (Merkel) Gelinas for 61 years, entered into eternal peace, Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Johnson Memorial Medical Center. The son of the late Leodor and Elaine (Chaput) Gelinas, Al was born and raised in Chicopee Falls, MA. The second of four children, Al was a graduate of Cathedral High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served honorably in Korea during the Korean conflict.
Following his military service, Al graduated from UMASS in Amherst and began employment at Monsanto. He was later employed by Westvaco and retired after 28 years with the company. Al and Faith made their home in Somers in 1971 where they raised their family. He was a longtime member of the Buck Dubiel Post #101 American Legion.
His enjoyment came from his devotion to golf, and golfing with his good friends, especially on the courses at Elmcrest CC and Inverness, FL. Besides his wife Faith, Al is survived by two children, Beth Rude and her husband Jeffrey of Colchester, and Eric Gelinas and his wife Jessica of Canton, two sisters, Elaine Slosek and Sandra Gelinas, and a brother, Donald Gelinas. He also leaves four grandchildren.
A Committal service, with military honors, will be held at 9 a.m. Tues. May 24, 2022 at the MA Veterans' Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 1390 Main St., Agawam, MA. There are no calling hours. Donations in Al's memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans, www.DAV.org/donate
