Obituary for Alfonso Reale

Alfonso Reale, 92, of Suffield, CT passed into eternal life on Friday, March 11, 2022, at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, CT. He was born on December 19, 1929 in Naro, Sicily in the county of Agrigento, the eldest son of Rosario Reale and Carmella (Vella) Reale. Alfonso was predeceased by both of his parents, his in-laws, Charles and Lillian (Todaro) Salamone, and younger brother, Vincenzo Reale. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Frances (Salamone) Reale and his three sons, Rosario Reale and his wife, Gina, of Somers, CT, Carlo Reale and his partner, Michael S. Dunn, of Suffield, CT, and Enzo Reale and his wife, Connie Marsala, of Ridgefield, CT. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Peter Reale of New Orleans, LA, Benjamin and Samantha Reale of Somerville, MA, Lily Reale of Ridgefield, CT (currently attending Smith College in Northampton, MA) and Sophie Reale of Ridgefield, CT (currently attending University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA). Alfonso also leaves behind his two sisters, Rosaria Borelli and Clara Pace and her husband, Antonio, all of Pratola, Italy, and a sister-in-law, Eleanor (Pambianchi) Salamone, of Enfield, CT as well as many nieces and nephews.

After World War II, Alfonso and his family emigrated to Venezuela. After living there for more than ten years, he visited the US where he met the love of his life, Frances. They married in 1963 and soon after Alfonso became a US citizen, a status he was extremely proud to have attained. Of influence and support to his immigration to the US and his life in CT was his Uncle Paul and Aunt Carmella Vella, both of whom he loved greatly.

Alfonso was an incredibly talented and successful barber and hairstylist. He was the proprietor of Mr. Alfonso’s Hairstyling Studio for several decades in the Thompsonville section of Enfield. From there, he served generations of Enfield residents. In 1975 he took first place in the New England Regional Hairstyling Championship and, as a franchisee of Roffler Hair Salon products, was a top producer in sales for many years in a row.

He is remembered by many to this day for his stories, sense of humor, easy going nature and lively conversations. Alfonso enjoyed reading, fitness, swimming, travel, dining out and, of course, good home cooked Italian food. He was also an avid dancer and loved nothing more than time on the dance floor with his wife, Frances.

The Family wishes to thank the staff of Unit 8-1 at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center for their compassionate care.
