Obituary for Alfredo Bilotta

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our Dad, Alfredo Bilotta, 91.  He was a wonderful father, a loving grandfather and great-grandfather, a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews, godfather to many, and friend to all.  He was born in Franca Villa, Calabria, Italy and came to the US when he was 17.  He survived young life surrounded by the ravages and poverty of WW II.  Without speaking English and with very little formal education, he worked hard in his new country and thrived, learning to speak English along the way. He paved the way for the rest of his family to come to the US.  He began a 41 year career at Connecticut Natural Gas and rose to the rank of Chief Regulator Supervisor before his retirement.  In his earlier years he was elected Chief Steward of the local union and ultimately its President.  He also ran for the Board Directors of CNG to be able to provide an additional voice for the labor workers.  He met our Mom, Angelina Buccino and they enjoyed 47 years of marriage until her passing in 2002.  Dad was blessed again to marry Josephine Nanci, until her passing in 2014.

We lived an idyllic childhood with our Dad working hard to provide so many unique opportunities for us, whether it be music, dance, ice skating lessons, gymnastics, etc.  He attended every one of our school events and recitals.  He was so proud of his beautiful grandchildren, Stephanie and Lindsay.  He relished his retirement, watching the girls and attending all their school events and activities.  He looked forward to spending time with Lindsay’s son, his great grandson Landen, whom he absolutely adored.

Al loved being outdoors and always created a bountiful garden.  He took great pride in completing home projects. He could build anything and grow anything. He built a manger with a thatched roof that was displayed every Christmas.  He dug out the back yard every year to build a skating rink and after we finished skating, stood out in the cold at night with a water hose so the ice would be smooth for us the next day.  We had a blast on family vacations and trips.  He was a passionate card player, whether it be setback or poker.

He was known as a friendly, outgoing man but also fiercely protective of his family.  He always had concern and compassion for others and loved helping people. He had a generous spirit, a full heart and a strong belief in God and the Church.

He is survived by his daughters and son-in-laws Gina & Rob Zappulla of Somers, and Carla & Steve Presz of Enfield, his granddaughter and husband, Stephanie & TJ McKenna and beloved great-grandson Landen Presz. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Marion Guerrera and her daughter and husband, Marianne & John Namnoum.  Marianne was considered his “third daughter.”

Alfredo was predeceased by his parents, Antonio and Concetta (Lecce) Bilotta, his sister and husband, Mary & Frank Pizzonia, and his brother and wife, Frank & Esterina Bilotta.  He was also predeceased by his beloved granddaughter Lindsay.

We would like to thank the staff of Mapleview Manor for their care, and his private caregiver Leslie Amara.  Leslie provided so much love and caring to our Dad and we are extremely grateful.

Calling hours are 8:30 – 9:30 am on Saturday, September 10 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd, Enfield, CT, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at Holy Family Church of St. Jeanne Jugan Parish, 23 Simon Rd., Enfield.  Burial will immediately follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 453 Fairfield Ave, Hartford, CT.   Masks are mandatory during services.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lindsay’s Legacy Foundation, PO Box 3196, Vernon, CT 06066. Alfredo’s passing has left a deep void in our lives but we treasure the great memories and love for a very special man.  We will always remember his constant smile.  He was always there for his family he loved so much.  Even though it is very sad he left us, we’re happy that he is together again with his loved ones in Heaven.  Until we see each other again Dad…we love you always and forever…
