Obituary for Carolyn J. Waitkus

Carolyn J. Waitkus, 80, wife of over 60 years to Peter F. Waitkus, Jr., died unexpectedly at the hospital after a brief illness on December 28, 2022.

Born October 3rd, 1942 to the late Helen Mihalik and Joseph Wodecki in Hartford, CT, she was raised in Windsor and West Hartford, CT, where she graduated from Hall High School, Class of 1959. Upon graduation she was employed by Travelers Insurance Company for 19 years. She took a break from work to raise her two sons until they started school. She then returned to the workforce working in retail until her retirement at 67.

She had many joys in her life but none more important than her family. She loved being a mother and taking care of her family. Carolyn was the best mother, wife and daughter. She also loved animals, having many cats and dogs over the years that were all very spoiled and loved. Among her many hobbies her favorite was gardening. Her passion for gardening and flowers was immense, always having incredible gardens, flower beds and shrubbery that could rival a professional horticulturist; always willing to help or give advice on the subject. Carolyn was also a tremendous cook. Anything she made was so delicious, especially her baked stuffed shrimp, golumpkis and pierogis.

Carolyn leaves her husband, Peter F. Waitkus, Jr., sons Christopher and Eric Waitkus, Eric’s longtime partner Michelle Oliver, their sons Cameron and Michael Waitkus all of Enfield, CT, and her sister, Ann Guida of Kensington, Ct. She also leaves behind many extended family members on both sides of the family and many friends.

Carolyn always put others before herself. Her passing was unexpected, and we are all deeply saddened. Her family loved her so much, and she will forever be loved and terribly missed.
