Obituary for Charles Bassett Sr.

Charles Bassett, Sr., 84, of Enfield, entered into Eternal Peace on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at Johnson Memorial Hospital. He was born on November 15, 1936, in Chittenden, VT, the loving son to the late Dexter Bassett and Maud Avril Gardner. Charles proudly served our country in the United States Navy. Following his time in the service he was employed with R.W. Thompson in Newington where he enjoyed a long career as a diesel mechanic. Charles enjoyed tinkering with wood and built many things for friends and family from doll houses for his granddaughter to toy boxes for his great granddaughter. He was a sports fan, especially enjoying NASCAR and the Yankees. Charles was an avid coin collector, and he loved spending time with his bird, Charlie. Charles is survived by seven children, Charles Bassett, Jr. and his wife Gale, of Plainville, CT, Edward Bassett of CT, Suzanne Deschamps of Enfield, CT, Dexter Bassett and his wife, Kim, of Wantage, NJ, John Bassett of Port Orange, FL, Mark Bassett of Enfield, CT, Keith Bassett of New Port Richey, FL, and Melissa Bassett of Pueblo, CO; two brothers, Donald Bassett and Albert Bassett; four sisters, Fran Rooney, Joyce Depastino, Betty Vennell, and Shirley Pribyson; eighteen grandchildren; and nineteen great grandchildren. Charles was predeceased by his former wife, Alice (Savery) Bassett; a brother, Robert Bassett; a sister, Gloria Roy; and a granddaughter. Services and burial will be held at a later date.
