Obituary

Debra Ann Gifford, 57, of Windsor Locks, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2020 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Daughter of the late William J and Pauline (Gauthier) Gifford, she was born on December 6, 1962. She was a lifelong resident of Windsor Locks and worked as an assistant assessor in the town hall for many years. In addition to working as assistant assessor, she worked part-time as a bartender at the Italian American Club where she made many friends and memories. Debbie was an avid basketball fan and she got a lot of joy from watching the UCONN Huskies and ECSU basketball teams. Anyone who had a conversation with Debra knew how proud she was of her 4 children, whom she is survived by, Rebecca Whiteley of Somers, and Tyler Johnson, Brittany Whiteley, and Nicole Johnson, all of Windsor Locks; and her 7 grandchildren, Mallory, Breanna, Olivia, Lukas, Genevieve, Benjamin, and Archer. She is also survived by her brother, Jeffrey Gifford and his wife Christine; her stepmother, Sandra Gifford; her sisters, Valerie Brangan and her husband Timothy, and Dawn Sopelak and her husband Jim, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Marc Gifford.
Her family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, October 19, 2020 from 4 to 7 pm at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St, Windsor Locks. Services and burial will be private. For online condolences, please visit www.windsorlocksfuneralhome.com.

Debbie was always so much fun to be around and her laugh was contagious. I have so many great memories of our times together growing up, whether it be for 4th of July celebrations at the Gifford's or the annual family vacation at Alton Bay. Debbie was a strong and beautiful woman that I have always looked up to. You will be missed Debbie, may your beautiful soul rest in peace. To Debbie's family, sending love and prayers for healing.

The Giffords lived next to my family & they certainly endured many hardships including loss of their Mom at such an early age and the loss of their sweet brother Marc, but they persevered & kept positive throughout life. Debbie was such a kind soul, always a smile on her face. My heart & prayers go out to Debbie’s family & to Jeff & his family at such a difficult time.

A favorite picture of Debbie relaxing at Alton Bay. We shared many a good time at the lake. She was such a good sport and was never above laughing at herself. She had many trials in her life but always kept a positive attitude. She was a courageous and remarkable woman who will be missed. She touched my life forever.
