Donald A. Heaton, Jr., 70, of Somers, peacefully passed away at his home on Friday, April 23, 2021 after a long illness. Son of the late Donald A. Heaton, Sr. and Marjorie (Allsop) Heaton, he was born in Englewood, NJ on October 26, 1950. In his early years, Donald was an assistant golf pro at Elmcrest Country Club. He was later employed by Lenox of East Longmeadow, MA until his retirement. Donald held an interest in sports throughout his life. In addition to golfing he was also an avid fisherman, and enjoyed following his favorite teams, the Red Sox, UCONN Huskies, and Philadelphia Eagles. He was a coach for the Somers Little League for many years. Donald held a special interest in the natural world around us. He especially enjoyed time spent with family and was a devoted uncle to his nieces and nephews.
Donald is survived by his sisters, Barbara Jacius and her husband Joseph, and Patricia Charette and her husband Kevin, both of Somers; his nieces and nephews, Stephanie Jacius and her partner Michael, Michael Jacius, Peter Charette and and his wife Kyle, Stephen Charette, and Timothy Charette, and his special friend, Nancy Quatrone. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Jaret Heaton.
Donald’s family will receive relatives and friends from 10 to 11 am on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at the Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St, Somers. A funeral service will be held at 11 am.
