Obituary for Donald Joseph Letizia
Donald J. Letizia, Sr., a resident of Somers, CT and formerly Cambridge, NY, died on February 4, 2021 at the age of 73.
Don is survived by his loving wife of almost 52 years, Irene Ann Letizia (nee Law); his children: Wayne Law of Gansevoort, NY; Billy D. Law of Falling Waters, WV and his wife, Luz; Steven Law of Panama City, FL and his wife, Heidi; Glenn Law of Saratoga Springs, NY, and his wife, Renee; Adam Letizia of Reedville, VA, and his wife, Carol; Donald J. Letizia, Jr., of Heathsville, VA; Jessica Letizia of Catonsville, MD, and her husband, Jack O’Brien; and Melissa Herman of Enfield, CT., and husband, Scott; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, stepfather James J. Hynes, sister, Lynne Letizia, and daughter-in-law Marie Law.
Don was born on October 19, 1947 in West Sand Lake, NY to Nicholas and Helen Letizia (nee Gaffney). He joined the U.S. Air Force on July 23, 1965. He was trained as a weapons loader on the F4-C aircraft. While serving in the UK he met his soulmate, Irene (Ann) at a pub called “The Running Buck.” They soon wed, first opting to stay in Ipswich, England and later returning to the United States where they eventually settled in Cambridge, NY. Don’s fondest memories were of his years at the farmhouse.
Don was an unstoppable force. There was not a thing that he could not accomplish once he set his mind to it. Many of his hobbies turned into businesses that supported his family. He was a taxi driver, a bartender, a meat cutter, a postal carrier, a farmer, and a coffee bean importer/exporter. He was especially proud to earn "power seller” status on Ebay with his business “Two Cups of Joe.”
For fifteen years he was the owner and proprietor of Green Mountain Surplus in Bennington, VT. During this time he met many people including David Dutcher, who was always a faithful friend.
He spent the last years of his life with Ann in Somers, CT, close to daughter Melissa and family. He especially enjoyed time with his beloved pet Chihuahua, Maggie.
Throughout his life he was sustained by his love of Christ and his love for his family.
Don’s family will be celebrating his life at a later date. Donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
