Obituary for Doris N. Johnson (Lee)

Doris Naomi Johnson (88) departed this life unto the arms of our Lord on August 15, 2023. She was born on August 27, 1934, in Bridgeport, CT. Her parents were Henry Lee and Edith (Witherell) Sabat.
Doris was a loving and devoted wife to David L. Johnson. She retired from Hamilton Sunstrand as a telephone Operator in 1998 to care for her husband. She was his steadfast caregiver throughout his extended illness, until his death, in 2005. A champion of children and the underdog, she bestowed many kindnesses that are not forgotten. She welcomed family and grandchildren into her home, as her heart was large. Doris overcame many challenges in her lifetime, including the death of her son David Johnson in early childhood from Leukemia. She is known for her quiet unassuming demeanor and that smile.
Mom was an early woman’s libber – She fought to get a driver's license against the wishes of her husband in 1960 and won. She loved books, music, art, movies, and especially the Academy Awards. Would do a favor for anyone who asked, give you a ride or a meal; whatever was needed.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Evergreen Healthcare in Stafford Springs for their dedication and attentiveness to Doris over the last ten years and especially during her illness. Outstanding care was provided by Joanne, Bonnie, and Shelly, among others. Special thanks to Dionne, Nurse extraordinaire- You are a Rock Star!
She is survived by a large and loving extended family.
