Obituary for Dorothy A. Africano

Dorothy A. Africano, 86, of Windsor Locks, wife of the late Arthur Africano, passed away peacefully Thursday Feb. 4, 2021 at Stonebrook Village in Windsor Locks. Born in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Buszta) Alekson. She was a resident of the Windsor Locks Community since 1954, where she and Arthur raised their family. Dorothy was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary Church of St. Mary Gate of Heaven parish. Devoted to her family, she dedicated her energy and love to bringing her family together for holidays, special occasions, and any excuse for a family gathering or cookout. Dorothy also enjoyed cooking and gardening. Simple things such as a cup of coffee, a delicious pastry, and good company brought her joy.

She will be missed by her loving family, including her children, Elaine Frank of Windsor Locks, Richard Africano and his wife Mary Ann of Glenmont, NY, four grandchildren, Dan and Rachel Frank, Katie and Peter Africano, a brother, Richard Alekson and his wife Cathie of Rocky Hill, two sisters, Maryann Romano and Steve Potter of Vernon, Jane Wass and her husband Ray of Rocky Point, NC. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Arthur, she was predeceased by three sons, Kenneth, Mark, and Robert Africano, a son-in-law, Mitchell Frank, four sisters, Patricia Tomaino, Irene Wells, Kathy Piazza, and Joyce Vincenzo. Her family wishes to sincerely thank the staff at Stonebrook Village for their love and dedication for Dorothy's care.
