Dorothy slipped peacefully into eternal rest on the first day of September, 2022. Dorothy was born in Yardley, PA to Walter and Helen (Randall) Thompson in 1925. She graduated Rutgers University with a degree in Library Services and shortly afterward began her career as a librarian at Cumberland County Library in Bridgeton, NJ. It was there that she met and wed the love of her life, David J West. For 37 years they enjoyed their careers working side by side and into retirement. They loved gardening, camping and sharing many art and craft projects. Dorothy was quite gifted with needlepoint, cross stitch and quilting to which David would build woodworking projects that showcased her beautiful creations. They resided in their beloved home “Innisfree” on quiet Clark’s Pond surrounded by nature, music and books. Lots of books!
Dorothy now joins her husband David who began his eternal journey in 2001 and her sister Louise Heritage along with her parents and many more friends and relatives.
Dorothy is survived by her sister, Alice Young of PA and her stepson, Jeffrey and his wife Patricia West and her grandchildren, Kari Auretta, Shelly West and Jesse West and her great-grandson Simon Auretta. She leaves many nieces and nephews and their families all with whom she shared wonderful times at her lakeside home. She also leaves her close friends Claire and Roland, and Dane and Joyce and many others on Clark’s Pond.
Dorothy resided at Suffield by the River and for the past year at the Suffield House in Suffield, CT. We thank you for the care she received while in residence there, always seeing to the little details that made her happy. There will be no services held in CT for Dorothy and we ask that you offer a special thought, prayer and remembrance of her. Her final interment will be held in New Jersey at her request.
Donations may be made to the Wounded Veterans Administration or the Alzheimer's Association as Dorothy was a generous supporter of both these worthy charities.
Thank you to all who shared in her life through knowing her or just enjoying the many stories of her extraordinary time with us.
