Obituary for F. Harry Costello

F. Harry Costello, 90, of Windsor Locks loving husband of 66 years to Rita (Purcell) Costello entered into Eternal Rest on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at The Suffield House with his family by his side. Harry was born January 14, 1929, in Bridgeport, CT the son of the late Francis H. and Agnes (Greene) Costello. He was a graduate of Fairfield Prep Class of 1947, and the Fairfield University Inaugural Class of 1951. After graduating from Fairfield University he proudly enlisted in the United States Army serving during the Korean War. After the war Harry began his teaching career in Stratford, CT in 1953. Then in 1959 he began his successful and passionate career as Principal of North Street School in Windsor Locks until his retirement in 1988. He was a faithful and devoted catholic and longtime parishioner of St. Robert Bellarmine Church. Harry will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and educator who enjoyed nothing more than to be surrounded by his family. In addition to his beloved wife, Rita Purcell, he is also survived by five children, James Costello and his wife, Honor of New Orleans, LA, Susan Colligan of Sandwhich, MA, Nancy Flynn and her husband, William of Peaks Island, ME, Lisa Costello of East Haddam, CT, and Tracy Kelly and her husband, John of Merrimac, MA; his siblings, Joan Condon of Fairfield, CT and Kevin Costello and his wife, Tina of Bridgeport, CT; 12 grandchildren, Patrick, Neil, Erin, Kelsey, Tyler, Shellbe, Victoria, Connor, James, Mckenzie, Cailin, and Kate; two great-granddaughters, Marisol and Sophia; two nephews, Skip and Tim Lance; two nieces, Linda Condon and Peg Brown; two former sons-in-law, Paul Colligan and Jody TenBrock. Harry was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Robert Condon and a sister-in-law and her husband, Shirley and Norman Lance. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Monday, December 16, 2019, from 4-7 pm at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks. A funeral procession will gather on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at 10 am at the funeral home for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 am at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 52 South Elm St. Windsor Locks.
