Obituary for Gene W. Mesick Sr.

Gene W. Mesick Sr., departed our world on April 26th, 2020. A year to date of his beloved wife and best friend, Ellen A. Mesick, who passed on April 26th, 2019. A devoted husband and father leaves his children scrambling to put his wonderful life into words. Dad never asked for attention or to be recognized, but how could we not take a moment to reflect on what a compassionate, selfless, and humorous father he was.
Gene was born in Vernon, CT on July 2nd, 1957, and spent his childhood in Stafford Springs, CT. Fast forward to the best part of the story when he met his wife Ellen Seagrave. The pair wed on June 14th 1980, and began creating their life together. Mom and Dad built their home in Enfield CT, where it would soon house three boys, and countless memories and shenanigans. Gene worked as a fire sprinkler fitter for the local 669 union, but according to him, “never worked a day in his life”, because he adored his profession.
Gene excelled at fixing things that were broken. After all, having three sons with multiple trucks and Subaru’s constantly breaking down kept Dad busy. If Dad can’t fix it, no one can. Dad’s idea of relaxing was upholding his well-manicured lawn and making several stops a day to Dunkin' Donuts with his dog, Buddy. There is no such thing as too much coffee.
Dad took fashion cues from no one. A t-shirt, jean shorts, long socks, and a pair of Timberland boots older than his sons. It will take all three of his sons to fill his boots. Luckily before passing, Dad blessed us with his wisdom, skill, determination, and his good heart that instilled in us how to love and never give up.
It’s time to untie your boots and get some rest, Dad. You certainly didn’t get much around here with our antics. Say hi to Mom and Pop and please check in on us occasionally. You know we will need your guidance now that we are left to tidy up our own messes. Dad, you will be deeply missed and forever loved.
Gene W. Mesick Sr. leaves behind his mother in law, JoAnne Seagrave, 86 of Enfield, CT. His sons, Jonathan Gene Mesick, 24, of Enfield, CT, Matthew Gene Mesick, 27 of Somers, CT, Gene William Mesick Jr., 30 of Coventry CT, and his fiancé Michelle L. O’Leary, 27, whom he loved as his own daughter that he never had. Dad also leaves behind his best friend and dog, Buddy, and his furry grandchildren whom he adored and spoiled, Sequoia, Timber, Mochi, and Marley.
Due to the current public health crisis, services and burial will be held privately for family. Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels has care of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gene and his Beloved wife's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
