Obituary for George E. Stephens

George E. Stephens, 90, of Somers, beloved husband of the late Janet (Luke) Stephens for over 55 years, passed away at home, Wednesday, June 22, 2022.Born in Boston, MA, Nov. 9, 1931, George shared his birthday with his twin brother Kenneth Stephens who resides in Falmouth, MA. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He later graduated from Northeastern University earning a B.S. Following undergraduate studies, he graduated from New England Law School earning a Doctorate in Law. Living in Somers since 1976, he was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Springfield, MA. His career spanned over 35 years in vacuum coating sealing technology. He retired as Executive Vice President and was employed with several companies in vacuum manufacturing and sales. George was a man who was rarely idle. He enjoyed Scuba Diving, and was a certified NAUI Instructor. He also loved to paint and had won awards for his artwork. Most of all, he loved his family and spending time with them whenever possible.
In addition to his twin brother Kenneth, he is survived by three children, Cheryl Salerno and her husband Joseph of Tarpon Springs, FL, Lydia Dusty and her husband Bryan of Somers, Mark Stephens and his wife Lita of Roseville, CA. He also leaves 5 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister Lois Stephens.
Visitation hours will be held from 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, July 5th, 2022 at Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St., Somers. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wed. July 6th at Trinity United Methodist Church (Please meet at Church), 361 Sumner Ave., Springfield, MA. Committal with military honors will be private.
