Obituary for Jean Scavotto (Cockayne)

Jean Cockayne Scavotto, 92, entered into eternal rest at home Friday, April 9, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Southington, CT, daughter of Percy and Catherine Cockayne, Jean was a resident of Enfield for the past 71 years. She was a graduate of the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing. After working at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Jean was hired by the Enfield Board of Education as a school nurse eventually becoming the Nursing Supervisor in the Enfield Public School system, until her retirement in 1993. She was a member of the Enfield School Nurses’ Association, State of CT School Nurses’ Association and the National School Nurses’ Association.
Jean was a parishioner at St. Bernard Church of St. Jeanne Jugan Parish in Hazardville and a member of the St. Bernard’s Rosary Guild.
Jean was predeceased by the love of her life, Carmen J. Scavotto and her son, David Scavotto. She leaves behind her loving children, Maureen and Robert Sampl of Enfield, Denise and David Thomson of Boothbay Harbor, Maine, Laurie Scavotto of Winfield, Illinois, Mark and Lynn Scavotto of Somers, Michael and Robin Scavotto of Pembroke, New Hampshire, Ann and William Landry of Enfield, Mary and Keith Sanderson of Hinsdale, New Hampshire, and Robert and Alouf Scavotto of Vienna, Virginia; 22 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Dr. John Cockayne, and 2 sisters, Ruth Crafts and Kathryn Karish Litke.
Due to Covid 19 concerns, a private Funeral Mass celebrating Jean’s life will be held at St. Bernard Church for her immediate family only with private burial following at Hazardville Cemetery.
