Jeanine (Folger) Nickelson, 64, of Enfield, wife of 42 years to Charles Nickelson, ended her fight Wednesday, August 30 2023 at Evergreen HealthCare. A lifelong resident of Enfield, and original communicant of Holy Family Church, she was born February 10, 1959 in Hartford, to the late Jesse S Folger, III and Jean (Shattuck) Folger. She was a graduate of Enfield High Class of 1977 where she lettered in Softball and Basketball. She worked various jobs, notably AC Petersen's, Rockbestos, Casual Corner and Paradies Shops but her most important job was Mom. As a notable member of the HB Stowe PTO and a Band Parent from Elementary to High School level, she was always involved and even marched in many of the parades. Regardless of the driving required to get to them, she never missed any of their children's dance recitals, school performances, scouting events or ball games. She enjoyed a wide variety of activities outside of her children as well. Such as, bowling and playing softball with the Riley Girls, playing bingo and going to the casino with her mother and Aunt Irene. She also enjoyed watching the UConn Women's Basketball team play and partook in roller skating and horseback riding in her younger days. Her love of roller skating led her to The Rollaway at Riverside, where she met her husband Charles in 1976. The two of them spent a lot of time at Riverside Motor Speedway and watching the bands play at Pumpernickel Pub. Jeanine always looked forward to playing trivia at the local bar every week with her children and all of her surrogate children, many of whom would often refer to her as "Mom." Some of those surrogate children had also bestowed "grandma" to her list of titles.
Jeanine is survived by her husband, Charles, and both of their children, Christine and Jason. She is also survived by her aunt Roseann Lemkey of Windsor; uncle Allan Folger of Englewood, FL, aunt Irene Folger of Sarasota, FL; siblings Jeffrey Folger and wife Patricia of Ellington, James Folger, and Jane Folger both of Sarasota, FL. Jeanine was also survived by her in-laws Elizabeth and husband Richard Carver of Claremont, FL, Marion and husband Robert Basile of Myrtle Beach, SC and David Nickelson and wife Verna of Springfield, MA and many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her parents, Jeanine was predeceased by her uncle J. Wayne Shattuck, aunt Patricia Landrigan, aunt O. Geraldine Trudeau, and uncle Richard Folger. In lieu of flowers consider making a donation in Jeanine's memory to Evergreen Health Care Center, 205 Chestnut Hill Rd, Stafford Springs CT 06076.
