Obituary for Joshua James Figella

Joshua James Figella, 40 of Somers died April 21, 2021.
Joshua was born January 6,1981 in Hartford to Coleen Brennan- Clifford and the late John Figella. He was raised in Somers and graduated from Somers High School in 1999. After graduation, he went to Nantucket to pursue his love for cooking. He was employed at Casey’s Café in Ellington for several years.
Joshua is survived by his beloved daughter, Olivia Figella of Somers; his mother, Coleen Brennan-Clifford and step-father Jim Clifford of Somers; his brother, Jeremy Figella and his wife Patty of Bristol;his maternal grandmother, Corinne Brennan; his uncle, Tim Brennan and his wife Barbara; his aunt, Terry Brennan and her fiancé Barry Moynihan all of Venice, FL; and his“Auntie” Sandi Danise of Bath, PA. He also leaves behind his step siblings, Angela Jannelle; Joe, Mike and Jeff Clifford; his nephew and niece Jon and Lilly Figella; and the staff of Casey’s Café in Ellington that loved and supported him.
He was predeceased by his father, John Figella; his maternal grandfather, Bill Brennan; his paternal grandparents, Frank and Rita Figella; and his uncle, Rick Danise.
Cooking was Josh’s passion and in the words of his brother Jeremy, “my brother would give the shirt off his back and make sure your belly was full.” The Somers High Lacrosse team called Josh, “The cockroach of lacrosse” because he was the toughest on the field, often playing through many injuries. His love for his daughter Olivia “Peanut” was beyond measure and she was the love of his life.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Joshua’s name has been set up for his daughter, Olivia. The family respectfully requests that any donations be made to it through the Joshua Figella Memorial Fund People’s Bank 612 Main Street Somers, CT 06071
Due to Covid, a celebration of Joshua’s life will be held at a later date. His family and friends are better because he was, and always will be, a part of their lives. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
