Obituary for Karen S. Kennedy

Karen Scozzafava Kennedy, 86, of Enfield, widow of William E. Kennedy (2020), passed away surrounded by her family at Hartford Hospital on August 23, 2022. Born in Port Henry, NY on November 28, 1935, she was the daughter of the late John and Kathryn (Gill) Scozzafava. She attended Port Henry High School. She then attended UConn and was a member of their marching band before graduating with her teaching degree. In 1957 she married her husband of 62 years, William E. Kennedy and made her home in Enfield, where she was a longtime elementary school teacher.
She began her teaching career at Hazardville Memorial School, before teaching at Henry Barnard School where she was also active in the teachers' union. She was a longtime member of the Enfield Women's Club, where she produced membership booklets for many years. Her favorite hobbies were playing Bridge for decades with long standing friends, as well as maintaining a beautiful fence-line garden at her homes. She and her husband enjoyed watching the UCONN men's and women's basketball games, attending Bushnell Broadway series, watching the Yankees and attending her granddaughter's soccer games. They also enjoyed travel and vacations to Cape Cod.
She is survived by three children, Michael Kennedy and his wife Linda of New York, NY, Patricia O'Connor and her husband Kenneth of Somers and Christopher Kennedy and his wife Cynthia van Zelm of Ellington, CT, two grandchildren, Christopher and Kathryn O'Connor, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, William E. Kennedy who were married 62 years on earth and were just one day shy of their 65th wedding anniversary on the day of her passing, she was also predeceased by her brothers, Jim and John Scozzafava.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday Aug. 30, 2022 from 5-7p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield.The Funeral procession begins at 9 a.m. Wednesday Aug. 31, 2022 at Leete-Stevens followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church of St. Jeanne Jugan Parish, 23 Simon Rd., Enfield.
