Obituary for Leon C. Estell Jr.

Leon C. Estell Jr., 68, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and dear friend, entered into eternal rest at his home in Springfield surrounded by family on Thursday, June 25, 2020. Born on November 26, 1951 in Stafford, CT, he was the son of the late Leon C. Estell Sr. and Effie E. (Burbank) Estell.

He was a jokester and loved to make people laugh. His joking personality was spread throughout the years starting with his siblings growing up to his children, nieces, and nephews and continued through to the children of his children, nieces, and nephews. Not only was his personality felt through the generations, so were his farts. He always loved to "blow kisses". From farting loud for amusement to farting silent ones for the reactions.

Leon was known by many names, dad, papa, brother, the guy in 1L, by his late mother as Junababy, but everyone else that loved him better knew him by Junior, Uncle Junior, and Uncle Booger. He loved his family and was greatly loved by his family. He loved playing scratch tickets and watching Wheel of Fortune. Junior always lived life by the edge of his seat. He had a passion for Corvettes and he loved NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt Sr being his favorite driver. During his life, just like in NASCAR, he might have been the lead vehicle in his race, but many times would fall behind to help others catch up. He might have crashed a few times, but never gave up his race. He might have driven his life but he knew his family was his pit crew. As he drove his final lap and the checkered flag was waved his pit crew stood tall to watch, it is never goodbye, always "Later"

Leon "Junior", will be missed by his family; his daughter Tina Estell, his son, Leon C. Estell III (better known as Mouse). His grandchildren, Caitlin Briehart, Justin Estell, Dillon Estell, and Travis Estell. His great-grandchild Ethan Estell. His siblings, Priscilla Lyons of Portland, ME; Roger Estell and his wife Alise, of Somers, CT; Phyllis Shays, of Winterhaven, FL; Norman Estell and his wife Cyndi, of Monroe, NC; Cynthia Estell, of Springfield, MA; and James Estell and his wife Carol, of Springfield, MA; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Clark Estell and Richard Estell, and by his great-grandson Justin Estell Jr.

His family will receive relatives and friends at Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main Street, Somers from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm on Thursday, July 2, 2020. A Graveside Service celebrating Leon's life will follow in Somers West Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
