Obituary for Nellis Tolisano (Priore)

Nellis P. Tolisano, 86, of Orange Park, Florida peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday, August 28, 2023 at home surrounded by family.

Nellis was born August 6, 1937 to William and Marjorie (Nason) Priore in Hartford, Connecticut. She grew up in the heavily Italian populated north end, attending Weaver High School. She married Salvatore D. Tolisano and had three children: Paul, Marie, and Peter.

Nellis primarily worked in the food industry from family owned and operated grocers to airline food suppliers.

Known to everyone as either Nellie, Mrs. T, Ma, or the best name of all, Grandma, Nellis was the center of her family’s universe. From her early days of growing up with her parents learning Italian cooking to throwing massive weekend parties at her home in Windsor Locks to finally quietly settling down in Orange Park with her niece Dawn, Nellis devoted her life to her family. And nothing pleased her more than to simply sit back and simply reminisce about “the good old days”, especially when she could feed you while she talked about them.

Nellis is survived by her son Paul Tolisano and his wife Debbie of Windsor, CT, her daughter Marie York and her husband Robert of Enfield, CT, her son Peter Tolisano and his wife Sherry of Bossier City, LA, 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Nellis was predeceased by her husband Salvatore, her brother Joseph Priore, her sister Patricia Engle, and her brother-in-law Robert Engle.

Special thanks to Dawn Engle who moved Nellis into her home becoming her 24/7 caregiver. Dawn, words cannot express how much what you did to meant to us and to your Aunt Nellis. We are forever grateful to you for all the love and care you provided over the last six years. Thank you.

Family and friends may gather on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 from 9am to 11am at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home 441 Spring Street Windsor Locks, CT 06096. A memorial service will take place at the funeral home at 11am, followed by burial at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Spring Street also in Windsor Locks. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Haven (hospice care) 745 Blanding Boulevard Orange Park, Florida 32065
