Obituary for Owen Thomas Contreras

Owen Thomas Contreras, 19, of Enfield and North Granby passed away tragically on Monday, August 15, 2022. Born in Rockville, CT on September 28, 2002, and grew up in both Enfield and North Granby. He was a beloved son, grandson, brother, nephew and friend. He was a 2017 graduate of St. Bernard School in Enfield and a 2021 graduate of Granby Memorial High School. Owen was employed as a third shift leader in a heat treat facility at Specialty Steel Treating in East Granby. During his years at St. Bernard School he would volunteer with his mother at Friday night bingo. The players used to take to Owen's wonderful disposition as well as his card and magic tricks. Owen had so many amazing qualities and with each new interest he had, he'd dive in deep and learn all he could about it. From his love of magic, to teaching himself to play the guitar, to his creativeness with a camera. He never ceased to amaze those around him. He was bigger than life with a heart of gold. Those that knew Owen knew he had the most infectious smile. It was his best quality and could light up the whole room. That smile shined through his eyes since the day he was born. He is survived by his father Marlon Contreras and his fiancé Deana Phillips of Enfield; his mother Leesa (Karam) Wallburg and her husband Michael of North Granby; a sister Lauren Contreras a Marine in San Diego; his paternal grandfather, Dariel Contreras of Enfield; his maternal grandparents Richard and Kathleen Karam of Ocala, FL; his uncle Paul Karam and his wife Kyung Hwa and their daughter Jessica of Shanghai, China; his aunt Stefanie Karam and her daughter Calli Torres of New Britain. He is also survived by his girlfriend Aydyn and many relatives and friends. He will be missed by his dog Jack and cat Stella who will miss his snuggles dearly. He is predeceased by his paternal grandmother Blanca Contreras. Being the only child of Marlon and Leesa together he shared many of their qualities which made him who he was. His family loved him more than words will ever express. He will forever and always be his mother's Punkin Pieman and his father's Little Buddy.
His family will receive friends on Monday, August 29, from 4-7 PM at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd. Enfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 30, at 10 AM at St. Bernard Church, 426 Hazard Ave., Enfield. PLEASE MEET DIRECTLY AT THE CHURCH.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Bernard School, 232 Pearl St., Enfield, CT 06082 for a scholarship in his name (PLEASE WRITE OWEN CONTRERAS IN THE MEMO OF THE CHECK).
